STRIKE - NY/NJ Ports Spain: General Strike - September 29th
NY/NJ Ports - Strike
Due to a labor job action in the NY/NJ port, all Marine Ocean Terminals are presently not processing trucks.
Picket lines by longshoremen from Philadelphia caused work stoppages at all six container terminals in the Port of New York and New Jersey on Tuesday, when terminal workers who are members of the International Longshoremen's Association refused to cross the Philadelphia ILA picket lines despite a court injunction issued on Monday. The work stoppages prevented cargo from moving in and out of the six terminals, where 12 ships were being loaded or unloaded. ILA members continued to work on the ships at the terminals but did not allow the cargo to move in or out of the gates.
The NYSA-ILA is currently bargaining towards a resolution
Spain: General Strike - September 29th
A general strike has been called in Spain for 29th Sept - this strike has been called by the main Spanish Unions CCOO & UGT in protest against the labor reforms that the Spanish Government introduced recently by decree.
It is still not clear whether there will be mass participation and whether the ports in Spain will be severely affected.
We do foresee that most of the ports will participate however it is not clear yet whether cargo operations will be severely affected at the terminals.
FYI the last general strike called in Spain in June had about 30% participation and there is still division on whether a general strike should take place on the 29th.
