Because a small to medium sized company may not be in need of a great deal of logistics services, these types of companies generally look to 3PL providers for their support networks and order fulfillment services. This is especially true of online retail sites, which will require more and more 3PL services as their business continues to grow. Those smaller businesses that use the order fulfillment services of a 3PL company can be sure that they are making the most of their resources.

Any business who has decided to utilize the services of a public warehouse or third-party logistics company or 3PL will want to be able to trust that company to perform the tasks at hand. A fulfillment facility can mean any number of things, depending on the needs of a particular business. But no company wants to have to worry whether its shipments will reach customers on time or at all. Every business wants to ensure that the 3PL company it uses is as concerned with customer service as it is which can make selecting a 3PL provider all the more difficult. Companies have no choice but to provide customers with the best possible service, no business wants their reputation tarnished, especially not because a 3PL company was not able to fulfill all desired functions.

When selecting a 3PL company, a business must decide what its need are and whether those needs require the efforts of a larger 3PL firm or that of a medium sized one. It is often the case that larger logistics providers are able to keep business clients happier with the services provided. Indeed, a larger company has a bigger budget and therefore more resources at its command. As with any type of business, a larger 3PL can mean faster shipping times. Then again, the cost of heavy shipments can, unfortunately, add up more quickly that most businesses would like.

A medium-sized logistics provider may be able to offer more affordable rates to its business clients than a small 3PL company. The smaller the company, the less money they have at their disposal when it comes to the shipping needs of clients and their customers. Businesses must decide for themselves whether they want to be a small fish in the big pond of a major 3PL shipper or an important fish in the hands of a provider just big enough to meet that business's needs. While many large providers provide contentment to their clients, a medium sized 3PL will be able to make more personal connections with its clients and be able to provide better services in this manner. Any company that is concerned with becoming just another name in a lengthy database will want to consider a logistics provider that can meet with that company on a personal level.

A small to medium sized company should only consider a reputable logistics provider to meet its needs such a company cannot afford to disappoint even one customer, and a 3PL company is a major part of building a business's reputation. A large company takes no risks in utilizing the largest 3PL it can afford; there is no way that a conglomerate will become a negligible client to any 3PL.

Once again, it is important to underscore the fact that a reputable 3PL company is one that treats each client's customers as if they were their own. A medium-sized 3PL company should be able to form strong business connections and make sure each client receives what it needs.
